Event Report: Experience the Latest Soldering Technologies at UNIX Soldering Day Held in Budapest, Our First European Base

On June 9, 2026, we hosted UNIX Soldering Day 2026 in Hungary at the Mercure Budapest Castle Hill in Budapest, Hungary, for our European partners. The event was designed not only to introduce our latest products, but also to provide practical technical training that helps enhance the technical capabilities of our partners across Europe.
In this report, we’ll take you through the highlights of the day—from live demonstrations of our latest products and practical technical sessions to interactive hands-on experiences that brought the venue to life.

Sharing Time and Technology with Our European Partners
Japan Unix has been serving the European market since the 1990s. In 2025, we established UNIX SOLDERING EUROPE KFT. in Budapest, Hungary, as our first European subsidiary. The launch of this local office was driven by three key objectives, which also formed the foundation of this event.
1. Improving Time Efficiency: Reducing lead times while providing faster testing, evaluation, and technical support.
2. Technical Training: Delivering hands-on training and technical education directly on-site using actual equipment.
3. Innovative Soldering Solutions: Bringing the latest robotic and laser soldering technologies to the European market.
Our mission is to transform years of “Know-how” into “Wow-how”, creating new value and delivering innovative soldering solutions to our customers across Europe.

Session 1 & 2: UH Heater and Maintenance Equipment That Challenge Conventional Standards
The morning sessions featured presentations of several of our latest products.
The highlight of the sessions was the newly developed 300W UH Heater, which integrates the heater and soldering tip into a single unit. Compared with conventional heaters, it reaches the target temperature of 360°C in just 11 seconds, delivering outstanding thermal response. Demonstration videos showed how the UH Heater maintains stable temperatures during continuous soldering, reducing cycle time by more than 10 seconds compared with conventional systems. In addition, its tool-free, one-touch tip replacement helps minimize unplanned production stops (“Choco-tei”) on the manufacturing floor.
The session also highlighted the importance of proper maintenance in preventing soldering defects and robot malfunctions caused by flux fumes and carbon deposits. Using performance data, the presenters introduced a new fume extractor with 10-level suction control, as well as the benefits of using a brush cleaner to maintain stable soldering performance.

Session 3: The Key to Tip Soldering – Achieving Repeatability
The afternoon sessions moved into more advanced engineering topics. The central theme of the tip soldering session was “repeatability”. Successfully running a robot once does not mean a process is ready for automation. The session emphasized the importance of proper machine setup and preparation to ensure successful testing and consistent soldering quality in mass production.
- Ideal Solder Joint Shape: The ideal solder fillet should have a smooth, well-balanced profile, which was humorously compared to the shape of Mount Fuji, bringing smiles from the audience.
- Temperature Profile Control: The session explained the different roles of the initial solder application, which promotes heat transfer, and the second solder application, which forms the final solder joint, based on the solder’s melting point of approximately 217°C.
Finally, the importance of keeping detailed process records was emphasized. Proper documentation enables engineers to explain test results with confidence and ensures that the same process conditions can be reproduced consistently in the future.

Session 4: Laser Soldering – Unlocking Its Full Potential and Pushing the Limits
The following session focused on laser soldering, highlighting the key differences from tip soldering, as well as its advantages and limitations.
The greatest advantage of laser soldering is its non-contact heating, which enables precise soldering of extremely small areas while significantly reducing maintenance time. However, because laser heating delivers highly concentrated energy almost instantly, incorrect process settings can increase the risk of overheating or damaging components.
During the session, practical solutions were presented for real-world challenges, such as black plastic components absorbing laser energy and becoming damaged. Examples included changing the component color to white and adjusting the laser irradiation angle. In addition, the latest beam technologies—including the Ring Laser, Twin Laser, and Area Laser—were demonstrated through videos, showcasing new possibilities for improving laser soldering performance while minimizing the impact on surrounding components.

Interactive Hands-On Training and Networking
After the technical sessions, participants joined a Hands-On Q&A using actual equipment. Guided by dedicated theme cards, they experienced practical tasks such as adjusting the Z-axis height, performing auto-tuning, and verifying the laser irradiation position with special test paper. The session also provided an opportunity to engage in direct technical discussions with our engineers.
Between sessions, participants also took part in a 10-question review quiz using their smartphones. Top scorers received prizes such as rulers and magnifiers, creating an enjoyable way to reinforce what they had learned throughout the day.
The event concluded with a dinner and raffle at a separate venue, providing an excellent opportunity for European partners and Japan Unix team members to strengthen relationships and exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.

Conclusion
UNIX Soldering Day was much more than a product showcase. It was a valuable opportunity to share practical engineering knowledge and provide solutions that directly address our customers’ manufacturing challenges.
At Japan Unix, we plan to further develop this hands-on workshop into a global training framework. Starting with customers in Eastern Europe and the German automotive industry, we aim to expand the program to our distributors and users worldwide, including India, Southeast Asia, North America, and Central America.
