U Hello, everyone! I’m Unokuchi, and I’m here to support your soldering life. Today, I would like to introduce “laser soldering,” which has received a lot of inquiries from all of you.

Laser Soldering, Basic Principles

U Over the past 20 years at Japan Unix, we have been working on laser soldering. In the last 10 years, it has experienced significant growth. During these 10 years, there have been numerous requests and successful implementations. In the past 5 years, material manufacturers have conducted extensive research and development, and now we have materials that are suitable for laser soldering. So, in the current environment, it has become much easier to choose laser soldering.

U Now, some of you may find it difficult to understand what laser soldering is. So today, I will start with the basics. I will explain what laser soldering is and its fundamental principles.

Laser Soldering

U First, let’s talk about laser soldering. As the name suggests, laser is used for soldering. We heat the target area using a laser, then feed solder to form the joint. The most common method is still using a soldering iron.

U We are heating it up right away. This is the preheating time. We are starting to feed solder to reach the soldering temperature. This is the main heating process. We have finished feeding solder. Now, it is in the post-heating phase. The soldering iron tip remains in contact until the fed solder spreads. Once the contact is finished, we proceed to cooling, which confirms the four processes for you.

Next, let’s move on to the laser. Just like the soldering iron you saw earlier, preheating has started now. Then, we proceed with the main heating by feeding solder. Before ensuring the solder spreads properly, we feed sufficient solder, and then we move on to the post-heating phase. Yes, now it’s in the cooling phase.

Summary

U In this process, we perform soldering in the same way, whether it’s with a soldering iron or laser soldering. So, you can confidently use it, and it has become widely adopted in the past 10 years. Next, I would like to explain why laser soldering is being adopted, so let’s meet again. That’s all for now.
